Reckless Harlem native ASAP Rocky made a guest appearance at yesterday’s Fool’s Gold “Day Off BBQ” event in New York City (more coverage here) and consequently proved why he is one of the frontrunners in this new generation of DIY rappers. Alongside Juicy J and Spaceghostpurrp, the Rick Owens aficionado dropped his latest single, “Peso” to an embracing (albeit rabid) crowd. Watch footage of the performance below along with the official video for the track:
Hipsters and ravers everywhere are scheduled to rejoice on October 25 when Ed Banger Records sweethearts Justice drop their highly anticipated sophomore record Audio, Video, Disco. Listen to the Frenchmen go a little 80′s retro on the title track here (via Some Kind of Awesome).
Kind of a late pass here, but this joint deserves all of the shine it can potentially get. Getting down to a standard soul-driven 9th Wonder beat, former Slum Village associate Elzhi provides a good complementary verse to a tried and true Phonte flow. Cementing their place atop the crest of the wave of new hip-hop visionaries, Applebird head honcho SPEAK! and Miami-based heatbringer SPACEGHOSTPURRP drop an epic collaborative cut from the latter’s anticipated Trilluminatti EP. The Michael Uzowuru produced track (which clocks in just a bit over two minutes) finds the young guns doing what they do best; allowing listeners a small glimpse into the life of a goon through a hazy maze of clever references and smooth spitting.
Make no mistake about it, 2011 has ushered in a few of Alf Alpha‘s most crowning achievements of his career. With performances spanning across both Friday and Saturday of the three-day Coachella Festival, the young artist has added some of his most defining moments under his belt. Watch Alf Alpha‘s interview with CBS below, as well as a few short snippets of his rafter-shaking set in the massive Sahara Tent at Coachella.
The official Coachella 2011 line-up was released late Tuesday night. I am pleased to announce that I (Alf Alpha) will be ple’y the festival on Saturday. I have been attending Coachella since I was 15 years old and have never missed a year. This festival has been a major influence on me and was one of my sources of inspiration to pursue my musical career . I had always looked forward to one day spinning at the festival and now that day has arrived. I’m honored to have been asked to perform this year and become the 1st solo artist from the Coachella Valley to perform at the festival. Thank you to all my friends that have supported me and helped me achieve this amazing goal. WE DID IT! I look forward to rocking the stage and partying with all my friends. See you all in April.

West Coast retro-funk king D?M-FunK does it once again. Breathing new life into Los Angeles’ lo-fi musician Nite Jewel‘s track “It Goes Through Your Head,” the current Stones Throw beatmaker/producer superimposes Ramona Gonzalez’s vocals unto an instrumental that sounds like it was thoroughly banged in the mid to late ’80′s. Listen to the booty-shaker below.
“Killin’ The Vibe” is a b-side off of Real Estate guitarist Matthew Mondanile’s newest upcoming record, Ducktails III: Arcade Dynamics. With the help of Animal Collective founding member Noah Lennox (aka Panda Bear) on vocal duties, Mondanile (who performs solo under the moniker Ducktails) demonstrates why he’s an integral part of Real Estate’s surf pop, chillwave’ed out sound.
