Krumbsnatcha | Hidden Scriptures Album Review
May 6th, 2009

High profile emcees has always tried to bring their childhood friends into the rap game and so it is with Guru’s friend Krumbsnatcha . The Boston native and former Gangstarr Foundation member has been putting in work in the rap music industry for awhile now. 11 years in industry to be exact and through the years he has released quite a bit of good music.
His new album Hidden Sciptures was officially released May 5th. Though it was released on mp3 format in December of 2008 and had a limited released on CD last month.
Beatwise the album is pretty on the money. With production by lessor known producers like Karimbo, Asmatik, DJ Ace, Nickel Plated & DJ Stress to more established ones like Pete Rock,The Beatminers, Large Professor & Statik Selekah. I must admit I’m feeling Karimbo joints the most. Maybe because Karimbo producing style is very similar to DJ Premier…boom bap with cuts on chorus. I maybe bias but a DJ dropping scratches in Hip Hop song is always sounds good.
Vocally Krumbsnatcha doesn’t have a great flow like Brother Ali or even a decent flow like fellow former Gangstarr foundation member Big Shug. To be honest I’ve heard many no-name emcees sound better. He sounds like he’s trying to make his voice sound deeper than it actually is. Akin to Hasan Salaam. However Hasan can actually pull it off. As well as Krumb seems to suffer from a lack energy while rhyming.
All in all the album has it’s moments but it just falls flat. As an instrumental album the beats would make it pretty good but Krumb’s substandard flow and lack of energy ruins some good boom bap joints.
