Rob Jay | Art Life of The Prelude
March 13th, 2009
Houston/ATL’s Rob Jay has just released his six songs EP “Art Life Of The Prelude” as a sampler to his upcoming full length album “Art Life”. Although all the tunes are good two standouts are “The Director’s Chair” & “Uncreatively Creative”. They both contain that nice mid 90’s Pharcyde sound.
“Wack sh*t is still wack sh*t even if it’s something different”
Uncreatively Creative
Vocally Rob Jay sounds like a combination of Kev Brown, Murs back in early days and a more vocally adept version of Kanye West. Although I wouldn’t put Rob Jay in category of present day great emcees like Brother Ali or Royce da 5′ 9″ I think he indeed has a future in the music biz and has demonstrated he can make good solid Hip Hop.
From contemporary sounding tunes like “I’m Nice ” and “Addicted” to indie inspired “Art Life” Rob Jay has a nice mix of joints on this EP to introduce himself to the masses. He is one of the few artists from the south you should check out.
