The British seem to be ushering in a musical renaissance of sorts, specifically in the electronic realm, judging by the wave of tremendous talent in the form of recent breakthrough artists such as James Blake and Jamie xx. This notion is not as absurd as one may think, especially considering the two aforementioned artists have seen chart-topping debut records in their early 20′s. Not one to be lost amongst the sea of young trailblazers is 27-year old singer and producer Jamie Woon. Having already gotten his foot through the door with the critically acclaimed Wayfaring Stranger EP (which features production by dubstep royalty, Burial), the musician is preparing for the release of his highly anticipated debut full-length, Mirrorwriting.
Though, generally speaking, Woon’s music leans heavily towards the R&B side of things, the smooth crooner’s beat and instrumental selection sets him apart from his contemporaries. His fresh sound is evocative of any number of left-field electronic music sects, at times seemingly of IDM thought and other times invoking minimal or dubstep leanings. Nevertheless, there is much to be excited about with Woon’s upcoming album release and if the first single “Lady Luck” serves as any indication of what lies ahead, then the future of the emerging artist is surely boundless.
