Pheo Presents Wriot! [Free Download]

EastofLA is proud to present Wriot!, the newly released offering from our very own smooth operplaya, Pheo. In contrast to his 2009 mixtape, Word To Your Blogger (a mostly down-tempo, low-key collection of songs paying tribute to his influences all the while finding his sound), the Murda Val representative demonstrates a more recent penchant for trap style hip-hop and a young rapper coming into his own. In addition to the murdered-out jump-off’s like the title track “Wriot!” and “Pearl Necklace #87,” the emcee expands upon the laid-back persona that first captivated us in his earlier material with head-nodders like “Angelina’s Beamer” and the forerunning single, “Sheets” (produced by Taylor Gang in-house beatmaker CardoGotWings).

While Wriot! is rounded out by guest appearances from a strong supporting cast of familiar up-and-comers including Los Angeles based R&B/soul seductress Nikko Gray, UTB Lifestyle affiliate Cashius Green and Applebird don SPEAK!, Pheo ups the ante with the psychedelic epic “Lil’ Bit of Ice”, a six-and-a-half minute album closer in collaboration with beat visionary, AFTA-1. Experimenting with various stylistic elements (such as varied/switched-up flows and more cohesive lyrical content), this record is a true testament of the young recording artist’s development into a mature songwriter and one of today’s freshest.
