The Knux | Bang Bang (Mp3’s + Video)
September 30th, 2008

The Knux are a really interesting group. Some critics pan them, saying their not pushing any limits that Outkast hasn’t already, others think their a breath of fresh air in the new school Hip Hop game. I’m personally pretty split, their first single “Cappuccino” that dropped earlier this Spring was pretty hot, the second to lesser extent, but I’m feeling the video they dropped for “Bang, Bang.” Also its pretty dope how musically inclined these two are, playing all of their own instruments and having full creative control of the album. Honestly, I just think their a young duo, still trying to find their sound and have mad potential, and with Jimmy Iovine & Interscope behind your back it’ll take a whole lot of ego to take that momentum away from you, but then again they do say some wyln’ ass shit like in this week’s featured LA Weekly article on the new L.A. Hip Hop Scene
“We were the first ones to do all this shit that people call hipster rap,” Krispy boasts, pulling the microphone closer for full effect. “We were the first ones with a major-label deal, the first ones to experiment with electronic music. Hell, we’re the reason that these labels started looking at people like this in the first place. Ask Steve Aoki, ask anyone who was there before they had 17-year-old kids in leggings showing up to the club. We were dressing like this when people were still wearing backpacks.” - L.A. Weekly 9/25/08
^^ That quote is a far out! First to fuck with electronic music? Hip Hop has been fucking with electronica since it’s advent, and literally hasn’t stopped since. First with a major-label deal? Thats not exactly something to brag about just yet, especially considering independant acts like The Cool Kids & LMFAO have more myspace plays on individual tracks then they have on their whole playlist.
It’ll be interesting to see how this album fares on the market, its called Remind Me in 3 Days, and drops Oct. 28th.

Man I hate electronica or “Hipster Rap”. Evolving musically or being creative is one thing but wack is still wack. You can’t dress up a pig and claim it’s a beautiful woman. Pig is no matter what you do it. As someone involved in history of Electronica,EDM or whatever you want to call it, we just called it dance music or LA Disco back in the day, it’s still wack. i don’t havwe clue why it’s so popular around the world. I’m just glad EDM never made out of being a subgenre of the american music scene. Keep Hip Hop Hip Hop. Or as I once heard if you can’t rob a bank while listening to it it ain’t Hip Hop. Hip Hop fun, dirty, grimey, funky, joyful ,etc. It’s not boring and mind numbing like EDM.
Peace & Blessings

Haha Hamza your crazy dude! There are way to many quotables in that comment. First off I think the term “Hipster Hip Hop” is pretty stupid, it’s all hip hop to me and if you want to be specific about this new school generation how come we can’t just call them “Indie Hip Hop” or something, basically these new guys are looking for a creative license beyond the tracks that are getting radio play currently. But whatever thats semantics, I think hip hop has a huge spectrum of thoughts, emotions & sounds, and as much as I love hip hop that I can rob a bank to, I do love some Nappy Roots or Outkast.
Looking forward to the Digger’s Vault!
