Noa James | Sounds Of A Monster
October 7th, 2009
San Bernardino emcee and Building Blocks host Noa James has released to the world his first album Sounds Of A Monster.
When people think of a monster they normally think of a creature that is vicious and ferocious. In the title of my LP, Sounds of a Monster, the monster refers to the life i lived, what I’ve been through and the struggle I’ve had in this music business……Sounds of a Monster reflects all the emotions in a person. ”
Noa James
Vocally and lyrically Noa James reminds one of Royce Da 5′ 9″ or other rappers like L.E.G.A.C.Y. Musically especially the comparison to L.E.G.A.C.Y. is apt as anyone who has heard any L.E.G joint can attest.
Overall the album mixes east coast hardcore Hip Hop with a dose of mainstream Rap. Personally I prefer my Hip Hop more underground sounding, but I’m sure more younger listeners may appreciate the sound more than I.
Every album has some bangers and “Sounds Of A Monster” is no exception . Some standouts off the LP are “Thank You” featuring Curtiss King & Art Barz , “Blow” and “Dreams” both songs featuring Ramon Jones & S.O.P. (Jynxx & Yasin) and “Music I Love” which features a sample of my favorite singer Adriana Evans. All four of these tunes display Noa at his best vocally and musically.
Noa has an unpolished sound which with a little work match up with the best of them.

Good post Hamza. Just a question, but how do you get more underground sounding than this? Reminds me of some Sean Price (BCC) shit… Noa had some really ill Inland Empire up and coming producers killing the boards on this record.

Noa James put out a REALLY dope project with Sounds of A Monster!! His lyrical skills combined with REALLY dope producers (like, Captain, Jynxx, and Curtiss King) has created an I.E. Classic in my books!!! The album is raw (Dominant Predator) fun (Villians Day) and PERSONAL (Therapy Session, this song gives me chills its so Real). I’ve seen him perform Villians Day live with Ramone Jones and Stevie Crooks and the crowd LOVES that track. People know the words like its a classic hip hop joint!! Bottom line, Noa is ILL!!
Keep Shinin’ Noa!!!

@Gopi
When I say underground I meant more inline with the deep sound of Swollen Members,Dilated Peoples,SandPeople. You know the Boom Bap,that’s underground. He’s sound isn’t underground it’s more pop meets east core hardcore.

I wouldn’t call this a classic. I enjoyed MC Mega’s “Ferocious” more. In My opinion a emcee has to have three components to be considered good.
1) Great beats
2) Great vocal abilty
3) Great lyrics
An emcee may be weak in one area (look at Das Efx ,great vocals and beats, decent lyrics) but must be outstanding in the other three. Face facts beatwise and vocally Noa just isn’t there. Can you really say he’s in the same league with Snagneto or Brother DVooA vocally? The other emcees on “Dream” & “Thank You ” totally outmatched him vocally. The other emcees were spitting while he was trying to spit.He needs to develop his voice more, have more confidence in his voice.
Beatwise the three songs I posted were as good as it got. Had the entire LP sounding like these three joints it would then be classic but most of the joints fall flat.
As far a classic album check E Reece’s “Listen 2 This”, Chali 2na’s “Fish Outta Water” or Sandpeople’s “Long Story Short” and compare those to Noa’s LP and you’ll see it just doesn’t compare. Like I stated he has some unpolished skill but he has some work ahead of him.

Yeah i noticed that before but was too lazy to change it.lol
I could swear that is Adriana Evans joint..the sound, the voice. It has to be Adriana or Dred Scott but if it’s not then it isn’t.
