The Monday’s | Week 27 of 2009 (mp3s / mixes / videos)
June 29th, 2009

Common sense would tell you I should put these posts together on Sunday and have them live first thing Monday morning. However weekends are made for more debaucherous activities, and Monday’s are at least intended for more productive work. Got an interesting mix of last weeks music that didn’t make a post on EOLA, download the entire zip of em, or take what you like: MP3: Right Click > Save As
Download: The Monday’s Week 27 (Mediafire, 78mb).
Music:
1.) Wu Tang Clan - “Evil Deeds” (ft. Ghostface Killah, RZA, Havoc) - Third week in a row which a track off the upcoming Chamber Music has hit this weekly list, probably due to the fact the Clan has been producing incredible quality music, excited to get the complete project which drops officially tomorrow (June 30th). (MP3: Download)
2.) Emilio Rojas - “A Million” (prod. Bangladesh) - Emilio via Brooklyn drops this stray shot in advance to his upcoming mixtape, The Natural, with DJ Green Lantern coming later this summer. (MP3: Download)
3.) Nas - “Film” (prod. C-Sick) - Last year after taking the Red Bull “Big Tune” beat battle competition, 17 year old Charles “C-Sick” Dumazer snagged his prize & opportunity to record alongside Nas. How does he produce his beats? A PC laptop, Fruity Loops software & searching Google for Mp3’s and sounds! Nas even put some of his best rhymes forward on this track. (MP3: Download)
4.) The Kid Daytona - “Air Born” (ft. Bun B) - The Kid Daytona is certainly a fan favorite amongst the independent hip hop scene, he linked up with Bun B at SXSW this past year and out comes a collaboration track! I’m a huge fan of Bun, so obviously check out his verse. The Kid Daytona is drumming up the promo campaign for his newest album, Come Fly With Me, dropping tomorrow (June 30th) as well. (MP3: Download)
5.) Drake - “Think Good Thoughts” (ft. Phonte, Elzhi & prod. 9th Wonder) - If Drake were to ask me which artists he should collaborate with, Phonte, Elzhi & 9th Wonder would certainly appear high on my list, and the fact that all four of em will rock on one track togther? Even better… You’ve probably heard versions of this before, but this is the complete song with Elzhi’s verse. (MP3: Download)
6.) Cookin Soul - “Streets Is Getting Hot” (Remix) (ft. Tek, Stat Quo, Ali Vegas, Mic Geronimo, Big Pooh, Doo Wop, Icadon, Chirie Vegas & 40 Cal) - Last week we featured a track off the upcoming collaboration mixtape from Nah Right x FLuD watches dubbed 1 A.M. & Rising. The mixtape is entirely produced by Cookin Soul & drops next week. Until then you have a Beenie-Man influenced megamix featuring a slew of hip hop artists I don’t recognize, but they come together nicely. (MP3: Download)
7.) 87 Stick Up Kids - “Stoops & Basements” - Not personally a fan of 87 Stick Up Kids, but they’ve certainly been hustlin the So.Cal music scene as of late & just put out their new EP, Out 4 Fame, which you could download here. I ran across “Stoops & Basements” a long while ago, but it’s my favorite track off the E.P. because the baselines kicking! (MP3: Download)
8.) Ladytron - “Tomorrow” (Vector Lovers Rmx) - Long time electro-dance staples Ladytron get the remix treatment from Vector Lovers for “Tomorrow” off last year’s album Velocifero. (MP3: Download)
9.) La Roux - “Tigerlily” - The very much buzzworthy electropop duo, La Roux, is priming themselves for their breakout year. Their self titled new album dropped today and can be caught where ever you legitimately purchase music. (MP3: Download)
Another 5 tracks, a mix & video’s after the jump…
10.) Peter, Bjorn & John - “It Don’t Move Me” (Rmx by The Knocks) - The Knocks had one of the best produced tracks of last week’s bunch, and I’m glad to say that maybe the case for this week as well. They put together a real smooth and tasteful remix of the Peter, Bjorn & John single, “It Don’t Move Me.” (MP3: Download)
11.) Holy Ghost! - “I Will Come Back” - Sounds straight from the eighties, but who care’s because it’s hot. Electro-Rockers Holy Ghost! put out a solid single on Mountain Dew’s innovative Green Label Sounds (MP3: Download)
12.) Jay-Zeezer - “Encore for Wayne” & “Say It Ain’t December 4th”- Like amateur pornography to struggling pop-star’s career; creative Jay-Z mashup’s have become the standard in which up and coming deejays test out their production chops and assert themselves into the media stream. A curious indie-rock fan who admittedly doesn’t know if “Outkast is a band or just one dude” puts together this Weezer x Jay-Z mashup using simple software & readily available mp3’s. Sure the production on the mixtape as a whole sucks, but he managed to get a few things right; which means it’s just probably hard to screw up a mash-up when your talking about such great music from two pop-culture staples. (MP3: Download), (MP3: Download), (Mix: Download)
13.) I Call Shotgun - “Ride With Me” (Cover of Nelly) - My 8th grade song of choice goes acoustic with the help from the fully capable but typically dancey band, I Call Shotgun (MP3: Download)
Michael Jackson Tributes:
There are a ton of them from all sorts of opportunists, but these are the one’s you should care about:
1.) DJ Premier - “Michael Jackson Tribute Mix” - Honestly they should have let DJ Premier spin his 30 minute M.J. mix last night at the B.E.T. Awards instead of putting together their miserable tribute. Just have hip hop’s most influential DJ’s spin & everybody in the auditorium dancing Soul Train style, haha, it would have been much more fitting. Nevertheless this mix dropped compliments of Premo’s weekly “Live From HeadQCourterz” show on Sirius-XM. It’s chock full of Jackson 5 material & Mike’s smoother jams. (zShare, 60mb Download)
2.) Peanut Butter Wolf - With only a few hours to prep after the death of M.J., one of the most influential D.J’s and businessmen in the independent hip hop scene digs through his crates and video library to quickly turn around this live V.J. set played the night of Mike’s passing. Check the whole set at the Stones Throw Blog.
Music Videos:
1) The Mars Volta - “Since We’ve Been Wrong” - There is no understanding these fellas, and I’m sure if you think you do, you probably don’t. Our favorite jam-band puts together their interpretation of a power ballad and drop a video to compliment. Video is slow and odd, but interesting and unique, I never get tired of watching the Volta jam out. Listen to the full song & stream below:
2) Method Man & Redman - “Mrs. International” (ft. Erik Sermon) - Real nice smooth track from hip hop’s joker’s Meth & Red. Blackout 2 is in stores now and is a very solid album, and I’m very glad to be able to say that! Redman’s verse on this is by far my favorite on the cut.
3) Pacific Division - “Mayor” - This is the song that had all the Hip Hop heads throughout Southern California begging for a MP3, and now they got a video to match. Peep Pac Div’s debut self-titiled E.P. on iTunes now.
