The Birds & The Beats by Ghanaian emcee M.anifest adeptly rides the line between mainstream Rap and underground Hip Hop. Never going to deep in either direction but having a perfect balance between the two genres.
Vocally I would say M. anifest is not at the level of his musical partner Krukid (A.R.M.). However he is way more talented than the average emcee.
Musically and lyrically The Birds & The Beats delivers what heads expect in a good Hip Hop album. All in all the album is worth checking out.
“There are some things money can’t buy, don’t let higher education be one of them.”
Most of us here at EastofLA are students or have been students at one of the University of California campuses. Even though some of us have graduated and moved on in our lives, we still believe in equal opportunity. Not only does the University of California’s recent 32% fee hike threaten the institution of higher education but also limits the opportunities of many underprivileged people. Last time I checked, education was not a privilege but it was a RIGHT. Rise up and fight for what’s ours!
Stand in solidarity with the University of California students!
Big ups to the folks at UC San Diego for putting this video together.
One album that is receiving serious play time right now is the new Strange Fruit Project. You may or may not be familiar with these cats. The new EP ( M.A.S.K) Making Art Sound Kool was released a few days ago for Free. Originally from Texas, the groups sound is nothing close to what you may think southern hip hop may sound like. The sound is raw, witty and uncommon hip hop.
The “M.A.S.K” EP features production from SFP’s own S1, as well as 9th Wonder, Caleb, and Picnic.
Ever since Terry brought up this idea I’ve been feigning for a listen. This track will kill a dance floor, but I want more Bowie! I’ll reserve judgment until the full project drops Friday.
With the success of ”Viva La Hova” and “Southerngold”… Terry Urban leaks the first single off his new remix album “Lady Stardust” which mashes up pop sensations Lady Gaga and David Bowie. Terry felt a remix project like this needed to be done with such similarities between the two pop icons. The album will be released for free download Friday, November 20th.
Mick Boogie & Terry Urban came to rock U.C. Riverside a few weeks back. Pheo & I showed the fellas around the Inland and helped rock the party. The buffoonery was documented below:
Nothing lasts forever and all things must come to an end. Those two cliches exemplify the truth of this world. In that vain down in San Diego tonight will be the final “Soul Sauce”. All lovers of good music and good times should make it out there and enjoy the “Sauce” one last time before it’s gone.
In commemoration of the 20th anniversary of Reebok Pump Packer Shoes has commissioned the 5th Platoon’s Vin Roc to produce a special mix for this occasion.
Also on personal note Vin Roc has made this mix as a celebration of one of the NBA’s best loved players from 80’s. The Atlanta Hawks very own Dominique Wilkins aka “The Human Highlight Film”.
I put this mix together to commemorate his career and put together some tracks that were out during his time. Kind of like a soundtrack to his life and times Vin Roc
Now kick your weekend off right with this mix of classic tunes.
I got another great mix by DJ Franchise. This time he lays down some mid 90’s and early 2000 Hip Hop.Not total mainstream nor underground but a perfect mixture of both. The mix includes Nas, Rakim, Notorious BIG, Heltah Sketah & Common.
Japan top Hip Hop producer DJ Honda released his new album H IV back in August and now a new video to go along the single “Let It Out” featuring Rakaa Iriescience from Dilated Peoples and Money Harm from The Product G & B. As evidenced by this top notch joint DJ Honda is an expert when it comes to quality Hip Hop.
