Who loves that jazzy Hip Hop? I got something for that you’ll sure enjoy all weekend long. Jazzy progressive Hip Hop masters Panacea graciously released an 9 songs free EP on rare remixes, unreleased tunes and album cuts. Raw Poetic’s flow over K Murdock’s production should fulfill all your good music needs this weekend.
Hauntingly soulful is one description that come to mind when listening to Jennings.
“She has this big, gorgeous voice that is full of timbre and character and makes you want to listen over and over again.” Wildy Haskell - Wildy’s World
Influenced by Sarah McLachlan and Tori Amos, Mary Jennings has a voice that captures the listener and doesn’t let go. The Nashville singer/songwriter brilliantly mixes piano driven pop with soulful singing and a touch of electronica. This eclectic mix of genres had Cabaret Voltaire’s Chris Watson remark:
“If Moby and Alicia Keys had a child, I believe it would be [her].”
I would say Jennings is what Amy Lee (Evanescence) would sound like if she made a pop album. Haunting beautiful vocals that you can’t get out of head.
Here’s the video for the single “Doorway” from the Jennings 2009 Storybook EP
A local deejay from around my way now residing in the Bay Area DJ Franchise dropped this great mix of radio friendly Hip Hop upon me. I was expecting the worst while listening but damn if Franchise has good ears for music. He selected and mixed all great joints within the mainstream Hip Hop / R&B landscape. Even if you stay away from the FM-dial like I do you will enjoy this mix, it features cuts from Kanye, Wale, Notorious B.I.G., Common & more.
One part rapper, two parts street entrepreneur, Dre Biggity by ways of the Murda Val (Moreno Valley, CA) co-heads the U.T.B. Life$tyle and teams up with Fashawn & Diz Gibran to leak “C.R.E.A.M.” (Cops Ruin Everything Around Me) off his upcoming mixtape The Diaper Dandy dropping 10/26/09.
With production handled by Best Kept Secret, Dre Biggity, Fashawn, and Diz Gibran make quick work of the beat’s twangy guitars and leaning bass, on a track title that is inspired by one of hip hop’s most classic songs. Mastered at Truth Studios. This is an unbeatable example of great things to come. - via 24KMilkcrate.com
Q: Define: “Diaper Dandy”
Phrase used by Dick Vitale to describe talented, freshman college basketball players. “Look at that move, this kid’s a real diaper dandy!” - UrbanDictionary.com
^^ Makes sense, these fellas are huge sports enthusiasts! Be sure to swing by Dre B’s Myspace and peep my favorites “Hello Tokyo” & “Murda Girls”
The Good Life alum Chali 2na and Aceyalone join forces bring you a night of great Hip Hop. Hosted by Rakaa Iriscience (of Dilated Peoples) this is destined to be a great event.

Wow, talk about shocking! A industry produced mixtape that actually has mixing on it.
At first my expectations were pretty low considering Duck Down’s 2008 mixtape “Hotline” but this collection of tunes from Duck Down artists is pretty golden. The only exception being Kidz In Hall’s “Flickin”. Why was that song included I don’t hazard a guess but “Mixed Emotions” and “No Love” by Team Facelift more than makeup for that minor stumble.
All in all with the likes of KRS One,DJ Revolution,Team Facelift, Ruste Juxx, Blue Scholars, Oh No, Torae, Sean Price and of course Buckshot himself this industry produced mixtape is far superior than most.
Now you have give a name and email address to receive the mixtape but not all is lost. You can use a fake name (say “John Doe” or “Dick Hurtz”) and fake email address (yousuck at yahoo.com), which is what I did. So go ahead people use your favorite celebrity’s name or make one up and grab this mixtape.
Houston based emcee Rob Jay has been burning the internet as of late. Gaining much love from the Rap/Hip Hop blogosphere with his Art Life Of The Prelude Rob has released a four song sampler of sorts to reach even more listeners and fans.
In the near future you should be seeing something special from Rob Jay and East Of La until then enjoy the tunes.

Inspired by the soulful falsetto balladry of classic icons as diverse as Curtis Mayfield, and Hall & Oates, Casxio’s aim is to “be more than just a friend to you” -Bringing the intensity and emotion back into a world where pop has become stagnant and disposable, this West Coast four-piece revives the timeless soul and funk feeling we’ve been long since waiting for.
Here is the new video for “Seventeen” - it’s oddly compelling…
