I’ve had this idea before and wanted to run with it but the folks at Hip Hop Head beat me to it. That Guy Fawkes always one step ahead of me..lol.
Anyway for all those not aware of Canada’s best exponents of Hip Hop, Swollen Members, this Best Of compilation will indeed show you what you’ve been missing. The only problem I see is the exclusion of “Fuel Injected”, that’s a classic party rocker! I can’t believe it’s not included in this compilation. However it does include “Consumption” an early song featuring The Good Life’s Aceyalone and produced by Evidence from Dilated Peoples back in 1998.
“This compilation is a giant mixture of all of their work. It takes songs from Bad Dreams, Black Magic, Heavy, Balance, and Monsters In The Closet and combines them into an cohesive collage of Swollen Members joints. Enjoy.”

Emancipator simply mastered this mash up between Sigur Ros and Mobb Depp to perfection. The track is almost 3 years old, but I came across it on We All Want Someone To Shout For this morning (I guess they were pretty late on it over there too).

I’m surprised this took 3 months to surface, or maybe I’m just late with it. However doing a live performance at N.Y.C.’s legendary Blue Note Jazz Club on Jan. 25th 2009, the Might Mos covers Kanye Wests “Say You Will.” I’m posting the track because I know a lot of Mos/Kanye fans swing by the site. I can’t personally say I’m a fan of Mos Def’s crooning (with exception to “Umi Says”), but the bands jazzy instrumental cover is worth the listen & download alone.

Ye’ continues to prove that 808’s was an artistic sidebar, showing he still has fire left in his Hip Hop engine. Kanye West & his G.O.O.D. Music signee Malik Yusef put together this sweet ladies jam, with none other than Hip Hop’s leading heartbreakers Common & John Legend. “Magic Man” certainly belongs in your iPod & love making playlist.

Don’t say I didn’t call it. Eminem drops “3 A.M.” the second single off Relapse. It’s a dark & gloomy track about a deranged murderer, your starting to hear Em’s incredibly versatile flow emerge again, utilizing his signature ratatat multi-syllabic flow through much of this Slim Shady-esq track. Listen to him come out of the gates on the third verse absolutely raging:
“I remember the first time I dismembered a family member / dizinner I think it was, I was having drinks with my cuz now wrapped in Christmas lights I pushed him into the stinking tub / cut him up into pieces and just as I went to drink his blood I thought I outta drink his bathwater, that outta be fun / that’s when the days of my serial murder manslaughter begun / the sight of blood excites me that might be an artery son!”
To summize, The track is refreshing to hear, especially considering the overly sugarcoated sound of the “We Made You” single… however in my book still struggles to find his old anger & fury as Slim Shady. However I don’t put anything past him, I expect to hear 3 more official singles off this record and I bet their going to get better and better.
Here’s a summary of his recent interview with Angela Yee, giving the juice on the project:
Respects T.I., Wayne, etc. Says that he would work with Wayne (just hasn’t had the time). Dre did the entire album (with the help of Em on We Made You; Em did one other). He picked beats that challenged him (rhythm wise). Every flow is different over unique beats. 3AM (and the album) is on a different vibe of the single. He’s censoring himself less this time around. States that he’s still Eminem (but Slim Shady is back). Relapse 2 will be out at the end of the year (if not finished, it’s extremely close to being done). 50 & Dre are the only guests on Relapse. He doesn’t know how to work a computer (but still checks 2dbz). Bigs up Kim K. The shots at celebrities should just be taken at face value. Ya’ll should be used to it by now! - via 2dbz

EOLA .. PEACE
While part of the Staff are out at Coachella. I’m here to do what we do @EOLA and bring you good people some new goodies. Mayer Hawthorne is at it again with a new single “I wish it would Rain”. The track has a sound along the lines of his debut single “Just Aint Gonna Workout”, Detroit Flavor with a modern touch of raw snares and drum claps. Hawthorne has a nice touch, and has developed a bit of a niche that stands apart from today’s pop and contemporary crowd. (more…)

Who loves MF DOOM? East of LA LOVES MF DOOM. Born Like This has provided a whole slew of new DOOM tracks that has been on constant rotation for weeks now. The Supervillian continues to produce and put out amazing beats with rhymes that will have you rewinding the track just to catch his metaphors and similies that get thrown out like he was born speaking in rhymes. A few months back, some people were tired of DOOM. With the double booked shows with impostors and no shows some people wanted his head on a stick. But we didn’t understand the anger. He’s the Supervillian, the Mad Villian, he wears a mask like his favorite super villian Dr. Doom! He’s been telling you for years he was going to jack you. And then he did. And we love him for a well needed dosage of art at its truest form. Recently, Gopi passed along a video with one of our other favorite emcees, Mos Def, ranting about his love for DOOM. So here it is for you to enjoy along with 4 DOOM tracks that have been on the playlist at my pad for weeks now.
Mos should start doing infomercials. he just entertained me through a 7 min commercial for doom and has me downloading albums lol
