post The Hundreds and DJ Mike B | Drive By Bangers Vol 1 and 2

February 26th, 2009

Filed under: 90s, Hip Hop, Mixtapes, Revival Rap, Uncategorized — Hamza21 @ 8:55 pm

Awhile ago The Hundreds and DJ Mike B released “Drive By Bangers Vol 2″ a sequel to DBB Vol 1 released back in 2006. Truthfully I never heard of these mixes nor Mike B before a few weeks ago. Anyway Mike B goes gangsta on Vol 1 with west coast “gangsta rap” tunes from the late 80’s and early 90’s . (See Tracklisting HERE). On Volume 2 (Tracklisting HERE) it’s nice mix of artists from the Fresh Coast. NWA to Ras Kass to Murs To Rodney O & Joe Cooley a nice mixture indeed.

post Chewo Beats and Kid Kapone | 3 Days In Saigon

February 24th, 2009

Filed under: Hip Hop, Instrumental, Mixtapes, Uncategorized — Hamza21 @ 4:00 pm

I got a nice instrumental collection for you all the way from islands, The Cocos and Christmas Islands that is. I didn’t know what to expect with  something entitled “3 Days in Saigon” but Chewo Beats & Kid Kapone produced quite a collection of soul type underground Hip Hop beats. No tracklisting just 24 unnamed tracks of goodness. Definitely worth a listen! Now if two guys from on the other side of the world can produce some quality Hip Hop US producers ain’t got no excuse for producing crap.

post The Niyat | Vector Prime Mixtape

February 23rd, 2009

Filed under: Hip Hop, Mixtapes, Uncategorized — Hamza21 @ 9:33 am

Coming out of Houston this three man group (Synato Watts, Snap, Doc MindBndr) called The Niyat released a “mixtape” that at first listen I wasn’t feeling until I got to “Break Bread”. In my opinion the order of songs really ruins the quality of The Niyat’s music. I would suggest to those who download this to listen to “Break Bread” and “The Walk” first then shuffle around listen to the other songs. I’m really feelin songs produced by The Are.

We invite you to come in and feel the vibe of that real good hip hop music that comes from the heart. We believe in the power and influence that words have and we seek to not only entertain the masses that may gather to hear us spit, but also to inform them of any truths that need to be exposed.

post DJ Phatrick |A Song For Ourselves The Mixtape

February 18th, 2009

Filed under: Concert, Events, Hip Hop, Mixtapes, Uncategorized — Hamza21 @ 7:34 pm

Now I haven’t  got a chance to listen to this however based on the tracklisting I can’t imagine this being wack. This mixtape features tracks from Blue Scholars,Bambu & the late Chris Iijima. It is sort of soundtrack to Tadashi Nakamura’s film by the same name premiering live at Aratani/Japan American Theatre on February 28 in downtown LA. (click HERE for more info). Bambu & Blue Scholars are scheduled to perform at Film’s premiere.

During the 1970s when Asians in America were invisible to the country–and more importantly even to themselves–the late Chris Iijima’s music provided the voice and identity an entire generation had been in search of. Through animated photographs, intimate home movies, archival footage and Chris’ own songs, A Song For Ourselves shows how Chris’ music unleashed the contagious energy of the Asian American Movement with an unrelenting passion for social justice and a life well lived.

post Trainspotters | Still The Kids

Can I cosign this and put my stamp of approval on this new joint from Trainspotters? Not exactly. At first listen I got midway through the track and actually started to feel it but I still can’t sign off on emcees George Kaplan & Rewind. To be considered true microphone fiends their skills on mic needs improvement. But the fact these two guys are from Sweden you just might overlook their lack of microphone skill.

Now since Gopi hasn’t resolved the server issues yet I got this link for you to listen/download the song.

post Murs l Who’s The Boss? (video)

February 17th, 2009

Filed under: Fresh Picked Weekly, Hip Hop, Music Videos — J.Paz @ 1:24 pm

Murs

So in the middle of the 50 Cent/Rick Ross “beef”, apparently Rick Ross has used a Murs beat to address 50. Backpackers every lashed out in unison. To make matters worse, Rick Ross said he didn’t know who Murs was during this track. So what is the logical response, Murs doing a track over a Rick Ross beat. What resulted wasn’t necessarily a diss on Ross but more of a oppurtunity for Murs to showcase his skills and talk about himself. Now, honestly I have never been a huge Murs fan but he does a solid catalog of hits but this video is thoroughly entertaining. And I gotta say, I agree with his line about “El Maniaco” Manny Ramirez. Enjoy!

post Beatnick and K Salaam | My Cherie Amor Remix

February 13th, 2009

stevie-remix.jpg

Beatnick & K Salaam just released another tune from their upcoming remix album “Never Can Say Goodbye”. First they did MJ then Marvin and now they touch a classic Stevie Wonder song. Now I have to say can nobody in my mind flip this song better than Neil Armstrong did in his Bittersweet mixtape.

Sorry folks you know the deal. RIAA + Free Music = problems. So I can’t post the track here until Gopi resolves the server issues.I can only direct you to a zshare link.

post Casxio | “Boiling Point” (video)

February 10th, 2009

Filed under: Alternative, Dance, Indie — Gopi @ 4:48 pm

Casxio is my favorite band emerging out of Los Angeles. The music is sexy, funky, pop, this band sounds like what Pharrell Williams imagines he sounds like. You’re going to see a lot of them in the near future, peep the new video for “Boiling Point” above and the MP3 below… If you like the tunes head over to their website Casxio.com and download their EP for free.
