Hauntingly soulful is one description that come to mind when listening to Jennings.
“She has this big, gorgeous voice that is full of timbre and character and makes you want to listen over and over again.” Wildy Haskell - Wildy’s World
Influenced by Sarah McLachlan and Tori Amos, Mary Jennings has a voice that captures the listener and doesn’t let go. The Nashville singer/songwriter brilliantly mixes piano driven pop with soulful singing and a touch of electronica. This eclectic mix of genres had Cabaret Voltaire’s Chris Watson remark:
“If Moby and Alicia Keys had a child, I believe it would be [her].”
I would say Jennings is what Amy Lee (Evanescence) would sound like if she made a pop album. Haunting beautiful vocals that you can’t get out of head.
Here’s the video for the single “Doorway” from the Jennings 2009 Storybook EP
Heavy rock kings Coalesce and everyone’s favorite space-rock Boston-ites Cave In are playing a FREE show sponsored by none other than Scion at the Knitting Factory this Thursday. This is an amazing line-up and one for rock fans not to miss.
Here’s the new title-track/single off of Minus The Bear’s new album Into the Mirror. A really dope combination of synth, electronic programming and straight up rock goodness. Enjoy!
Now I know we have alot MF Doom fanatics out there and this is especially for you. Fellow Blogger (and DJ) Pipomixes has produced a great mix of Doom joints for you all to enjoy. Personally I can feel Zev Love X way more than Doom but sadly Zev’s forever gone.
Noel Gallagher has quit Oasis yet again. Here’s his personal statement from their website:
A STATEMENT FROM NOEL
28 August 2009
“It’s with some sadness and great relief to tell you that I quit Oasis tonight. People will write and say what they like, but I simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer.
“Apologies to all the people who bought tickets for the shows in Paris, Konstanz and Milan.”
Danish pop-rock/indie innovators Mew are set to release their new full-length CD, No More Stories Are Told Today I’m Sorry They Washed Away No More Stories The World Is Grey I’m Tired Let’s Wash Away (perhaps the longest album title in awhile, right?) on August 25.
The first single from the album, “Introducing Palace Players” exhibits the band in a new and improved form. Extracting their pop sensibilities from the now classic record, Frengers, and utilizing their aptitude for incorporating tinges of shoegaze into their works, the new CD demonstrates a mature sound that is not likely to disappoint new and old listeners alike. On a personal note, I really can’t get over how well the band hybridizes seemingly prog-rock time changes and mathiness with an extremely accessible pop outer.
Here’s the official music video for “Introducing Palace Players”:
Some dates on the band’s upcoming tour in support of the new record, including dates with NINE INCH NAILS on their farewell tour:
Also included in this post is another snippet from the new record, “Beach”. The song is a strong contrast to the single, and like the title emanates, it’s definitely one to relax/cruise to.
The video for the Washington indie band Modest Mouse’s track “King Rat” has surfaced. Luckily for the public, we get to experience Heath Ledger’s work in direction with the twangy anthem.
Included in the post is the mp3 of the track. Enjoy!
With Queens of the Stone Age’s vocalist/guitarist Josh Homme at the helm of production duties (a session occurring at his Joshua Tree studio) on half of the Arctic Monkeys’ new full-length record, Humbug, it’s easy to see and accept their progression in sound. On Humbug, the band, whom have since been seen with longer locks of hair (possibly a visual representation of the band’s newfound love and inspiration of the likes of Jimi Hendrix and Cream?), is seen at a new stage of songwriting especially following Alex Turner’s successful side project The Last Shadow Puppets.
Here’s the official video for the band’s first single, “Crying Lightning”:
Catch them on their latest tour in support of the new record:
Also added for your consideration, the Mp3 of “Crying Lightning” and another snippet from the album, “Pretty Visitors”. Both tracks are solid and serve as good, diverse representations of the feel of the CD. Sorry we were kindly asked to remove these tracks.
In lieu of the release of their 12th full-length album, Popular Songs, New Jersey indie pioneers Yo La Tengo have created (through their record label, Matador Records) a series of videos to mark the preview of select tracks from the new CD.
Here’s the first video of the series (featuring a mesmerizing sky-high view of skywriting planes):
“Here To Fall” and “Periodically Triple or Double” are available for your listening pleasure below.
As many of you know Atmosphere released a free seven song EP on July 4th.
For those not in the know the seven songs will bring back that good vibes of Hip Hop made during the 90’s. A nice little surprise for the summer. I’m especially feeling the quasi anti-drug message of “Feel Good Hit of The Summer Part 2“.
“Stay away from me if your life’s getting stupid
And please stop pretending it makes better music” Slug - Feel Good Hit Of The Summer Part 2
Now Technically you are supposed to register with The Rhymesayers online store Fifth Element Online to receive this free EP but due to interweb I got a link courtesy of Midwest Broadcast for you.
