This mix by Gas Lamp Killer titled “The Kutmah”, is unorthodox, eclectic fuckury. Bass heavy beats of electronic drum & bass errupt throughout the mix, discovering some raw beats along the way.

I’m a sucker for damn good MPC routines. Objektiv One hits the pads flipping a simple vocal sample into super smooth beat dubbed “Everywhere A Million” - listen to them drums!

COPYRIGHT CRIMINALS examines the creative and commercial value of musical sampling, including the related debates over artistic expression, copyright law and money.
Independent Lens
Debuting tonight on PBS TV’s Independent Lens will be a documentary many around the interweb have been waiting to see. Is sampling a crime? Can anyone really own a sound? I would say no but the film delves into the concept from both perspectives and in fair and honest way.
Copyright Criminals will feature interviews with DJ Q Bert, Mix Master Mike, Pete Rock, Chuck D, George Clinton and the original funky drummer himself Clyde Stubblefield.
For your local listings check HERE and see the trailer below.
Also look into the book Pirate’s Dillema by Matt Mason it touches upon this issue in broader context.

Remix or reworkings? I would say reworkings of classic and not so classic tunes by the band called The Remix Project (Apple Juice Kid, Matt Brandau, Brevan Hampden, Mark Wells, Dana Chell).
In the vain of El Michel’s Affair and Breakstra The Remix Project drops some heavy jazz stylings in this 22 song mixtape. With The Apple Juice Kid at the helm expect to be delighted by some smooth sounds.
“The sizzling instrumental hip-hop covers of The Remix Project–four crack jazz musicians with disgustingly developed chops–will let you enjoy the party at night and not regret your choice for a musical paramour in the morning.”

A few weeks back via his twitter account (HERE) drummer/Producer of The Roots ?uestlove started posting recordings of “sandwiches”, the music played during commercial breaks of “Late Night With Jimmy Fallon” . The website All The Way Live collected these recordings and assembled them into this compilation that displays insight into the greatness of the Roots.
However, sadly Black Thought doesn’t rhyme over any of “sandwiches”.

After the Iran election went down and I saw the press and protest, I thought not only did I want to do this project but that it HAD to be done. - Are via FWJM

Just a few short hours east of Los Angeles you’ll reach the Coachella Valley, which may sound familiar because of the omnipresent and annual Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival. To most it’s a profound cultural experience over the course of one wild weekend, but to the young resident’s of the Coachella Valley it’s an extremely innovative and progressive music & art scene all year long. It has recently spawned some of our favorite music acts such as: The Queens of the Stone Age, Eagles of Death Metal, D.J. Day, Slipping Into Darkness & art world sensations The Date Farmers. I had the pleasure of being exposed to this scene through our friends at The Coachella Valley Art Scene blog & our pal Alf Alpha.
However sadly the this thriving art community recently lost a friend, his name Gabriel “Glez” Gonzalez. He was a graffiti artist, screen printer, graphic designer & described simply, but fittingly, as a “great guy.” Above is a copy of one of Glez’s screen prints, like all talented artists he leaves a timeless legacy. Alf Alpha got to work on the boards and recorded this new beat in dedication to his friend.
