“Where is My Vote” is a project dedicated to the political failures of the Iranian government and the progressive movement by the people of Iran. The project was done by “The Are” of NY. Here is a note on how the project came about.
Thank you! I started this project a while back but got side tracked with other projects. After I returned from NY a few months ago, it was one of the things I wanted to finish. After the Iran election went down and I saw the press and protest, I thought not only did I want to do this project but that it HAD to be done. - Are via FWJM

Just a few short hours east of Los Angeles you’ll reach the Coachella Valley, which may sound familiar because of the omnipresent and annual Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival. To most it’s a profound cultural experience over the course of one wild weekend, but to the young resident’s of the Coachella Valley it’s an extremely innovative and progressive music & art scene all year long. It has recently spawned some of our favorite music acts such as: The Queens of the Stone Age, Eagles of Death Metal, D.J. Day, Slipping Into Darkness & art world sensations The Date Farmers. I had the pleasure of being exposed to this scene through our friends at The Coachella Valley Art Scene blog & our pal Alf Alpha.
However sadly the this thriving art community recently lost a friend, his name Gabriel “Glez” Gonzalez. He was a graffiti artist, screen printer, graphic designer & described simply, but fittingly, as a “great guy.” Above is a copy of one of Glez’s screen prints, like all talented artists he leaves a timeless legacy. Alf Alpha got to work on the boards and recorded this new beat in dedication to his friend.

Since I know many of you are out there are enjoying the many Cinco De Mayo festivities I thought I hit you with a little something to chill to. This is especially for those who need a little rest between the many celebrations happening this holiday weekend.
I wouldn’t describe this as a mix but more of compilation but a good compilation of downtempo grooves. It’s delightfully soulful! It’s just right thing you need to relax too.

Two weeks ago, our fellow EOLA blogger, Hamza21, posted a free album released by a man named Diego Bernal. Bernal a lawyer out of San Antonio, recently released “For Corners”, an album I fell in love with. My infatuation with Diego’s music led me to his Facebook and I couldn’t resist messaging him a few questions that I wanted answered. Of course, the homie came through, and finally replied!

EOLA: How did you get involved with music production?
Diego Bernal: I come from a very musical household. My mom always had music on- she didn’t watch much TV- and played piano by ear. My dad was a drummer as a younger man so he had the bug, too. I inherited their love of music but, unfortunately, not any of the talent. It just didn’t happen for me. I either lacked the patience or was meant for other things.
In any case, when I first heard RUN-DMC, the Sugarhill Gang, Rakim, Kane, Eazy-E, Too Short, the D.O.C , P.E., the Geto Boys, DJ Magic Mike and all of the other early hip hop groups I loved the attitude and feeling, but it was the beats that just captured me. They gave the MC’s so much more to work with. It affected how they said what they did. The bass drum boomed in your chest and paused before the next blast… it was like musical morse code. After that point I was always on the look for new, creative and expressive music layered over drums. It was that simple.
One summer in California, 1989 or 1990 I think, I picked up A Tribe Called Quest’s first record, “People’s Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm,” and sequestered myself in a bedroom with only a walkman and time to kill. I was completely blown away. For the first time since I rocked the air guitar to Def Leppard I heard music that I WISH I’d made. It was beautiful. It had atmosphere. It was thoughtful. I was hooked.
Over time I learned to DJ (I got the budget, belt-drive DJ set from the back of the Source; thanks, Mom!) and then came into a Gemini mixer with a 6 second sampler. I’d manually make pause tapes of drum breaks and then layer loops from the sampler over the breaks. I’d then record these little real-time sessions into my Radio Shack tape deck. I made beats and remixes that way. Low budget as it sounds, it was really exciting and some of my fondest memories come from that wild mass of wires, buttons, duct tape and dust.
The rest of the story is just Gemini-to-Roland-to-Esoniq-to-Yamaha-to-Reason-to-Ableton.

This will probably go down as one of the most unusual names for a mix. “Make A Record Of Your Voice And Send It To Him” sounds more like plea than a name for a mix but considering it’s ingredients I suppose it fits somewhat.
This short mix (only 25 minutes) of audio clips, vocals and dark Hip Hop beats by Turkey’s Azat is something unusually good. It contains a great underground Hip Hop feel to it. I suppose to describe it would be Trip hop meets underground Hip Hop meets Turntablism with a touch of Soul. Not too much of either but enough to meet the needs of the fans of the four genres . Check for yourself and I betting most of you enjoy it as much as I did.

This why you come here to EOLA isn’t? Good music from unknown talents.
San Antonio’s Instrumentalist/Producer Diego Bernal just recently released his album as a free download. To describe his sound I would say take some downtempo J Dillaesque Hip Hop,dusty jazz drum breaks wrapped up in some Hip Hop stylings. Those who love breaks mixes will love his sound. For others who more used to autotuned 1985 sounded beats. Take listen you might find something you enjoy better or not.
“For Corners” is Diego Bernal’s love letter to the music, cultures, era and people that nurtured him. The music is dusty and layered with Latin soul, from the triumphant blasts of horns to the laid back groove of lowrider melodies. ”

I got a nice instrumental collection for you all the way from islands, The Cocos and Christmas Islands that is. I didn’t know what to expect with something entitled “3 Days in Saigon” but Chewo Beats & Kid Kapone produced quite a collection of soul type underground Hip Hop beats. No tracklisting just 24 unnamed tracks of goodness. Definitely worth a listen! Now if two guys from on the other side of the world can produce some quality Hip Hop US producers ain’t got no excuse for producing crap.

Today DJ Rhettmatic has just released a new mixtape with producer Khrysis.
“My good friend and producer extraordinaire, Khrysis from the Justice League, and myself have done a mixtape project called “Khrysis On The Board With The Heat 2″ over the summer (the first installment was done by Mick Boogie). Basically, it is a collection of all his production that he has done in the last year in a half.
So think of this of a “Beat CD done in a mixtape format”, freaked ‘Beat Junkie Style’ by yours truly.”
