The music video for the second single off of Body Talk, Pt. 1 by Swedish dance-pop artist, Robyn, takes a different approach from her others. Complimenting the song’s more down-played electronic pop, the video offers a glimpse into the life of a touring musician.
It should come as no surprise that Canadian electronic pop maestro Caribou (alternately known by his former alias, Manitoba) is not only a gifted essential one-man band, but an accomplished mathematics scholar. Daniel Victor Snaith’s 2010 breakthrough release, Swim, is wholly demonstrative of the musician’s cerebral approach to both his passion in academia as well as in his aural craft. The dance-worthy lush soundscapes Snaith creates in his latest album are the result of his application of chord sequences and logic in his songwriting and some truly and feasibly evocative of progression.
Check out the correspondingly trippy new music video for Caribou’s latest single “Sun”:

Remember this Swedish singer-songwriter? Right, you probably don’t. Let’s refresh your memory; this is the bird that dropped the mid-90’s jam “Show Me Love”.
Don’t lie, you couldn’t get enough of that track back in the day. Well, Robyn hasn’t exactly faded into obscurity since then. A few huge electronic collaborations (”With Every Heartbeat” with producer Kleerup amongst others) and a Grammy award nomination later, the pop artist is still going strong.
In anticipation of her fifth studio record, Body Talk Pt. 1, Robyn has thrown up a teaser in the form of a new track/single, “None of Dem”. The song, which marks yet another partnership with Norwegian electronic giants, Röyksopp, (Robyn lent her vocal stylings on the track “The Girl And The Robot” on their 2009 release Junior) features the type of sound you’d expect to find yourself vibing hard to at an obscure Euro discotheque or Hollywood club alike. Robyn comes strong on the track lyrically (touting the ineffectiveness of drugs and guys frontin’ on her) and it already appears that the album’s title encompasses the style/sound that she’s looking to achieve.
Body Talk Pt. 1 is set for release on June 14th via Cherrytree/Interscope and is part of a 3-mini album series.
Tracklisting and album artwork:
“Don’t Fucking Tell Me What to Do”
“Fembot”
“Dancing on My Own” (feat. Kleerup)
“Cry When You Get Older”
“Dance Hall Queen”
“None of Dem” (feat. Röyksopp)
“Hang With Me (acoustic)”
“Jag Vet En Dejlig Rosa”

It’s no surprise that Barcelona-based synthpop band Delorean are garnering great attention with the anticipation of their full-length record Subiza. The Spanish collective made huge waves with their last release, the Ayrton Senna EP, which showcased their unique blend of dreampop and electronica and are currently touring with Miike Snow throughout North America.

Update:1/28/10 4:oopm PST - Word is this is a fake. You can’t say I didn’t write about my suspicions, nothing has been confirmed either way, you can’t blame people for jumping on it - email came straight from promo@edbangerrecords.com and the supplied graphic was sharp!

I was just asking myself when I’d hear some new original tunes from the french duo who catapulted ahead of the late 00’s electro-dance scene. Well I just got an eery one-line email from Ed Banger:
“Feel free to share it or talk about it”
One sentence of curt self-confidence that only a conquering French record label can summon! Of course they know we’re going to do both… Beginning of the End has that signature creepy yet melodramatic crunch to it. Sounds like the start to a pretty epic follow-up. If your looking for a new revolutionary sound, your not going to get it here. However there were enough good tunes and visuals off that first record, that I don’t mind listening to a bit more of it.
We’ve all heard of the French indie-darlings Phoenix by now. If you don’t think you have, turn on your TV for even half an hour and you’re sure to see a fast-paced urban-inspired car commercial blasting “1901″. Their abrupt rise to fame isn’t a fluke and I highly doubt that even after the proverbial dust surrounding the band’s latest release, “Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix” settles, that we’ve seen the last of these dance-rock veterans.
And now, it’s their turn to share their music without all of the frills of post-production and electric instrumentation, as the celebrated documentary-styled music sessions La Blogotheque covers the band in their home-country of France (more specifically in the streets of Paris). Similar to how the band recorded a fun little video with the skyline of Paris in the digital backdrop of their Mac recording which they had posted to their blog awhile back, the Blogotheque sessions has given the band the chance to do it proper.
Ever since Terry brought up this idea I’ve been feigning for a listen. This track will kill a dance floor, but I want more Bowie! I’ll reserve judgment until the full project drops Friday.
With the success of ”Viva La Hova” and “Southerngold”… Terry Urban leaks the first single off his new remix album “Lady Stardust” which mashes up pop sensations Lady Gaga and David Bowie. Terry felt a remix project like this needed to be done with such similarities between the two pop icons. The album will be released for free download Friday, November 20th.
Mick Boogie & Terry Urban came to rock U.C. Riverside a few weeks back. Pheo & I showed the fellas around the Inland and helped rock the party. The buffoonery was documented below:
Can’t tell you how excited we are to have a gorgeous newly renovated concert venue like the Fox Theater right in our back yard. Opening up for shows just a mere month ago, The Fox Theater in Pomona has already hosted acts like Wilco, 311, Gogol Bordello, Pennywise, Pepper. They’ve got Cake, Band of Horses, & Ween coming later this summer, it all sums up to great things for music fans in Southern California. You can swing by their website for updates or conveniently follow their twitter.

Common sense would tell you I should put these posts together on Sunday and have them live first thing Monday morning. However weekends are made for more debaucherous activities, and Monday’s are at least intended for more productive work. Got an interesting mix of last weeks music that didn’t make a post on EOLA, download the entire zip of em, or take what you like: MP3: Right Click > Save As
1.) Wu Tang Clan - “Evil Deeds” (ft. Ghostface Killah, RZA, Havoc) - Third week in a row which a track off the upcoming Chamber Music has hit this weekly list, probably due to the fact the Clan has been producing incredible quality music, excited to get the complete project which drops officially tomorrow (June 30th). (MP3: Download)
2.) Emilio Rojas - “A Million” (prod. Bangladesh) - Emilio via Brooklyn drops this stray shot in advance to his upcoming mixtape, The Natural, with DJ Green Lantern coming later this summer. (MP3: Download)
3.) Nas - “Film” (prod. C-Sick) - Last year after taking the Red Bull “Big Tune” beat battle competition, 17 year old Charles “C-Sick” Dumazer snagged his prize & opportunity to record alongside Nas. How does he produce his beats? A PC laptop, Fruity Loops software & searching Google for Mp3’s and sounds! Nas even put some of his best rhymes forward on this track. (MP3: Download)
4.) The Kid Daytona - “Air Born” (ft. Bun B) - The Kid Daytona is certainly a fan favorite amongst the independent hip hop scene, he linked up with Bun B at SXSW this past year and out comes a collaboration track! I’m a huge fan of Bun, so obviously check out his verse. The Kid Daytona is drumming up the promo campaign for his newest album, Come Fly With Me, dropping tomorrow (June 30th) as well. (MP3: Download)
5.) Drake - “Think Good Thoughts” (ft. Phonte, Elzhi & prod. 9th Wonder) - If Drake were to ask me which artists he should collaborate with, Phonte, Elzhi & 9th Wonder would certainly appear high on my list, and the fact that all four of em will rock on one track togther? Even better… You’ve probably heard versions of this before, but this is the complete song with Elzhi’s verse. (MP3: Download)
6.) Cookin Soul - “Streets Is Getting Hot” (Remix) (ft. Tek, Stat Quo, Ali Vegas, Mic Geronimo, Big Pooh, Doo Wop, Icadon, Chirie Vegas & 40 Cal) - Last week we featured a track off the upcoming collaboration mixtape from Nah Right x FLuD watches dubbed 1 A.M. & Rising. The mixtape is entirely produced by Cookin Soul & drops next week. Until then you have a Beenie-Man influenced megamix featuring a slew of hip hop artists I don’t recognize, but they come together nicely. (MP3: Download)
7.) 87 Stick Up Kids- “Stoops & Basements” - Not personally a fan of 87 Stick Up Kids, but they’ve certainly been hustlin the So.Cal music scene as of late & just put out their new EP, Out 4 Fame, which you could download here. I ran across “Stoops & Basements” a long while ago, but it’s my favorite track off the E.P. because the baselines kicking!(MP3: Download)
8.) Ladytron - “Tomorrow” (Vector Lovers Rmx) - Long time electro-dance staples Ladytron get the remix treatment from Vector Lovers for “Tomorrow” off last year’s album Velocifero. (MP3: Download)
9.) La Roux - “Tigerlily” - The very much buzzworthy electropop duo, La Roux, is priming themselves for their breakout year. Their self titled new album dropped today and can be caught where ever you legitimately purchase music. (MP3: Download)
