UTB Life$tyle – BetAMill [MP3]

There are instances when the strength of a whole crew is fully displayed on one track, a perfect combination of fierce production and killer verses from each member. “BetAMill” is exactly one of these particular cuts. Production is handled by Soulection affiliate Bosstone, who provides a slapper that is sure to push people’s audio systems to their limit; taken full advantage of by the UTB Life$tyle crew, particularly Pheo., Cashius Green and Dre Biggity, each contributing a verse hard enough to match the intensity of the production, forcing you to acknowledge their arrival on the music scene. “BetAMill” was a saying first uttered by Pheo. on his track “Angelina’s Beamer”, meant to be interpreted as an exhibition of confidence, which guarantees the success of his UTB Life$tyle crew, success so certain, you could bet a cool mill on it.

Showing constant progression and the consistent crafting of a quality product can evidence the passion an artist has for their music. Pheo.’s passion has definitely shone, releasing 3 meticulously crafted projects over the span of 3 years, all revolving around his birth month of March. The release of Reali$m finds him as an artist who has now been a part of a national tour, as a member of The Smokers Club, had a release on a nationally recognized imprint in Mad Decent, as well as a recent appearance at the highly regarded Paid Dues Festival.

Pheo. and his unique flow have always exhibited the ability to morph in ways that match any production style, priding himself in the perfect blending of beat with rapper. The production choices on Reali$m further this line of thinking, featuring Soulection producers, Mr. Carmack, Lakim and Koen, along with a rare credit from Afta-1, J-Money, Alf Alpha, UTB Life$tyle’s BatmanOnTheBeatz and upcoming producer BrianFolk, among others. There are also vocal appearances from fellow crew member Cashius Green, SayKnowledge and Nikko Gray. Whether a soul loop based beat or a synth and bass heavy sound presents itself, on Reali$m, he allows each unique sound to guide his rhymes, giving concept and meaning to each track on the project. It is one, single line on the closing track that serves to best describe the feeling Pheo. hopes to evoke of the listener, as he rhymes, “Lose your training wheels / not your handle bars…”, the real essence of Reali$m; stay real to yourself, take risks, but be cautious not to lose your sense of self-guidance.

Cashius Green and Pheo – Sour Phil Jackson [MP3]

On the day the Lakers chose to spurn the return of Phil Jackson, Best Money Makin’ Muhammad Ali and Blackman Magnificent look to fill that void with their new track, “Sour Phil Jackson.” Over a soul sampled beat by LeKen Taylor, Cashius Green provides a chorus which cleverly references the all-time great coach while proclaiming himself, ‘the man with the purple.’ Although Pheo is known for always coming through with that smooth flow, on this track, it’s extra silky.

[Mixtape] Pheo – WaveUpWednesdays Vol. 1

Those who have been following Pheo might have heard this term before and wondered it’s meaning. Adopted from the Max B moniker “Wavy”, it’s known that waves are constantly reoccurring, but it’s also true every wave is always unique to itself. Applied to music, each new “wave” brings forth new levels of creativity and inspiration, giving ambitious creatives the ability to ride waves and create their own space.

While on The Smokers Club Tour this past August, Pheo released a series of tracks he dubbed WaveUpWednesdays. DJ Jimbo Jenkins has assembled these tracks, along with 2 new additions, including “WaveUp” produced by Mad Decent’s DJA and crafted the WaveUpWednesdays Vol. 1 mixtape.

Pheo – Nyquil (Trax Dubstep Remix) [Mp3]

Hailing from Mexico, 16-year old dubstep producer, Trax, remixes Nyquil by East of LA artist, Pheo, and creates a whole different take of the song’s originally easygoing and mellow vibe. Trax applies just the right amount of heaviness and intensity with the bass synth and sparseness of the dubstep kick and snare, all the while honoring the conveyance of lyrics and sound of Pheo’s voice.
