Do you like Dilla? Do you like Nas? Well then do I have something for you. Thanks to Squeek Boogie, of the Bumsquad DJ’z, now you can both all together in one 16 track mixtape. I’m not the biggest J. Dilla fan. But before you all throw a flaming pitchfork at me, it’s because I am not very familiar with him. I have his beats on my Mac (shout out to Steve Jobs) but haven’t gotten around to listening to all of them yet. So for someone like me, or someone who has never heard of Dilla, this mixtape may just what the doctor ordered. Aside from smoking plenty of medical marijuana.
All the west coast homies will probably enjoy the first track “Nas is Like”, I know I’mma be bumping this in the whip on Sunday. “Thief’s Theme” is another banger. And “Streets of New York” rounds out my Top 3, as this track is over the “House of Flying Daggers” beat which may be my favorite beat of 2009.
I hope you guys enjoy. Peace.

The Turkish beatsmith is back!
Azat has released two previous instrumental mixes before “Make a Record of Your Voice and Send It to Him” and Slow Down”. Now for new year he is back with a 2 part 24 minute Hip Hop-Breaks-soulish mix. If you enjoyed the previous mixes you’ll love this one as well.

What does your mind conjure up when thinking of the name Gin Joints & Young Ivy? Another T Pain, Drake, Lil Wayne clone? Well you’ll be dead wrong.
Sweden’s Gin Joints and Young Ivy combine to deliver one of the best slept on albums of 2009. The Conjugal Visit is everything true heads expect from a Hip Hop album. That quality Boom Bap mixed with Soul music so many Hip Hop fans around world love.
Recorded over three weeks in Luleå,Sweden while young Ivy was on holiday from attending Dartmouth College. The album is quite impressive for two guys from Sweden. In era of autotune and talking over music rather true emceeing it’s refreshing (and sad) to hear people outside of the US bringing good music to the masses.

San Bernardino emcee and long time S.O.P. collaborator Yasin showcases the numerous untapped talent that the Inland Empire region has to offer.
This Black Cloud artist brings that underground Hip Hop that’s palatable to mainstream. Like Houston’s Rob Jay and Maryland’s E Reece vocally and musically Yasin delivers some quality head nodding material.
With beats provided by producer Jynxx (S.O.P.),Sauze One and Cire Reds War Iza Reality is any good music lover’s dream.

This is making it’s way around the interweb this past week. A “mixtape” of A Tribe Called Quest remixes by DJ Chong Wizard.
With heavy hitters like Del Tha Funke Homospaien,Tanya Morgan, Panacea’s K Murdock, El da Sensei and Moka Only you’ll expect something more memorable. However, what you get is a lukewarm mix of a bunch no-name emcees spitting over remixed classic Tribe tunes. It’s definitely worth a listen, no doubt. Still with the name of A Tribe called Quest attached to project most would expect greatness not just goodness.

Remix or reworkings? I would say reworkings of classic and not so classic tunes by the band called The Remix Project (Apple Juice Kid, Matt Brandau, Brevan Hampden, Mark Wells, Dana Chell).
In the vain of El Michel’s Affair and Breakstra The Remix Project drops some heavy jazz stylings in this 22 song mixtape. With The Apple Juice Kid at the helm expect to be delighted by some smooth sounds.
“The sizzling instrumental hip-hop covers of The Remix Project–four crack jazz musicians with disgustingly developed chops–will let you enjoy the party at night and not regret your choice for a musical paramour in the morning.”

This is a rarity. A “mixtape” that is actually mixed by deejay! Mixed by Inka One no less.
From the man who brought you one of last year’ s best albums (HERE). Maryland’s E Reece just can’t make inferior music. Other than Brother Ali I can’t think of another emcee who can match his consistency. If after listening E Reece he doesn’t become your new favorite emcee something is seriously wrong with your ears.

A few weeks back via his twitter account (HERE) drummer/Producer of The Roots ?uestlove started posting recordings of “sandwiches”, the music played during commercial breaks of “Late Night With Jimmy Fallon” . The website All The Way Live collected these recordings and assembled them into this compilation that displays insight into the greatness of the Roots.
However, sadly Black Thought doesn’t rhyme over any of “sandwiches”.

Slum Village’s Elzhi has delivered a little gift to Hip Hop lovers everywhere a “unmixed” collection of unreleased material. With tunes produced by Black Milk,DJ Spinna,Oh No & Jake One you know this is golden.
“These Leftovers would have passed for a fresh cooked meal if you didn’t know better. It’s raw, uncut, unmastered, fresh from the studio and ready for your ears. No DJs, just eLZhi and his comrades, your speakers and you. Without the Leftovers UnMixedtape, most of these songs would never have seen the light of day, so consider this a gift, and come get your grub on!”
