The young G.O.O.D. Music backed Detroit-based rapper Big Sean presents the third installment of his Finally Famous mixtape series; a precursor to the release of his debut album of the same moniker (slated to drop in September).
Following his Ode To Illmatic mixtape (which paid homage to New York rapper Nas), the young emcee Fashawn teams up with DJ Skee for the third installment of his Grizzly City series. The 18-track tape features guests such as Lil’ Wayne and even current Lakers small forward, Ron Artest.
The D.C.-based emcee Wale, whom released his major label debut album Attention:Deficit just last year, returns with a follow-up to his 2008 Seinfeld-themed mixtape in-hand, the More About Nothing mixtape. Aside from maintaining the first’s overall vibe (with samples from the show and decently produced instrumentals), the tape moves the rapper a bit forward with the times by incorporating features from Wiz Khalifa and Waka Flocka Flame. Overall, another somewhat solid offering, though it’s nothing we haven’t already heard from him.

Recorded at The Roots Picnic is an outdoor festival in Philadelphia the hometown of The Roots, on June 05 of this year. The Magnificent Jazzy Jeff spins classic Hip Hop while Ahmir “?uestlove” Thompson plays some funky drum patterns with Mad Skillz holding it down on the mic.

We’re truly blessed because the brand new East of L.A. office & studio is located in the Pomona Arts Colony and it has some incredible residents. One of them is this man, DJ EROK. Not a day goes by where this homie isn’t loading and unloading deejay equipment from his car, always on the run. Concurrently holding down the Inland Empire with it’s longest running and most successful nightclub promotion (More Fire Monday’s) and producing arguably one of it’s most successful and widely noted apparel lines: Ek5obition.
I downloaded this 46 minute live mix earlier this morning, and I think I might have listened to it without skip four times over already. Few lyrics, just head nodding mind sex with sprinkles of genius from the producers forging forward throughout Southern California and now emerging onto national & international platforms. This is one for the grown and sexy, a highly recommended download.

The Czech Republic’s 19 year old beatmaker Inphy seems to have a good ear for samples and has made a pretty solid remix album. The Remixtape is golden era Hip Hop updated for today’s “backpackers“. Michael Uzowuru, also referred to as “The Afro Buttefly” is a dope kid and beat maker representing Southern California. Inspired by the album In My Element by Jazz pianist Robert Glasper French producer Dela reworks samples from the album into a new jazzy Hip Hop instrumental creation.

Wu Tang and The Beatles? This combo can go either way: greatness or a complete train wreck. Fortunately UK music teacher Tom Caruana knows how to produce some quality boom bap Hip Hop. I would have never thought the raw and ruggedness of The Wu would sound so great mixed with psychedelic sounds of Liverpool’s fab four. I suppose the power of The Wu is so immense anything sounds good with a taste of the Long Island warriors.
