The 2010 FYF Fest (formerly known as F*ck Yeah Fest) line-up has been announced and boasts, as usual, a diverse array of indie acts ranging from lo-fi to electronic, to hardcore punk. Held annually at the Los Angeles State Historic Park, the event will take place on Labor Day weekend and although pre-sale tickets have long since sold out, the music fest is a damn good deal considering the extensiveness and quality of the roster. The event has sure come a long way since it’s humble beginnings (that used to incorporate one of the craziest and intense organized scavenger hunts in L.A.) and this year it’s bigger and better than ever.
To many, the break-up of The Libertines six years ago was an overwhelming disappointment and left an immense hole in the then large resurgence in the British indie rock climate. After two instant-classic records, Up The Bracket and The Libertines, the band was making huge strides in the post-punk and garage rock revival scenes. Despite the band’s critical and commercial success, however, tensions between the two frontmen, Carl Barât (vocals/lead guitar) and Pete Doherty (vocals/rhythm guitar) as well as Doherty’s obvious addictions led to their abrupt demise.
Following six years and a slew of solo/side-projects from all four members of the band, The Libertines have decided to make amends and reunite. First on the agenda are highly anticipated special appearances at the Reading and Leeds Festivals. Lets hope Carl and Pete keep it copacetic this time and old Petey stays clean (ha, right).
It can be said, without a shred of doubt, that Godspeed You! Black Emperor was one of the most influential instrumental rock bands. To this day, the Canadian post-rock pioneers (active during 1994-2003), are widely regarded as a seminal symbol of the genre and tremors of their style and innovation are felt to this day.
Shockingly, the band has abruptly announced an end to their almost decade-long hiatus and will be getting a running start with a headlining/curating slot on the Nightmare Before Christmas event presented by All Tomorrow’s Parties in Minehead, England on December 3-5. The lineup also includes: Bardo Pond, The Ex, Deerhoof, Tim Hecker, Mike Watt and Scout Niblett. According to the band’s announcement, a slew of European/U.K. dates and a small 9-date trek through America are also on the horizon.
Hip Hop Congress at U.C. Irvine has been busy coordinating the Urban Arts Festival alongside their student government.
This year, Urban Arts Festival will be a mixture of many things: cyphers, sales of emerging fashion brands, a dance showcase, live and interactive entertainment, all topped off with a hip hop concert featuring live-show rockers Zion-I and the ever talented Aloe Blacc.

It’s gearing up for a slew of good musical performances around the IE starting this weekend.
The San Bernardino based Hiphop/Rock band Redeye will be performing at The Method’s Warehouse Project (see the flyer HERE) in San Bernardino on May 9th. The band featuring the emcee and singing talents of Kelley Mak will also be performing at The Temecula Music Festival on the last day of the festival,Sunday May 17th around 1pm.
EOLA artists Pheo & Speak will be performing at Temecula Music Festival too. However they will be at Saturday’s show on May 16th. Pheo is scheduled for 6:30 pm performance and Speak is scheduled from sometime later, I believe.
So there you have it folks some good music coming your way.
The homie Arturo hit me up telling me that Blu was going to be performing at a free music festival this weekend. Turns out that event is the Kohoutek Festival, a festival that has apparently been around for a good while now with a rich history of great performances and good times. Both days, April 24th and 25th, are free and open to the entire community and student population. And apparently, there may be free booze as well. Below is information regarding the location and the set times and performers scheduled to appear which include Blu and Mr. Lif on Saturday.

Well…I’m really confused on which event I should attend (some of you may be too). Both events fall on Saturday, May 2nd. The Breaks runs from 12pm to 12am and UCR’s Spring Splash (bottom picture/line-up) runs from 12pm to 6pm. The feature that might persuade me the most is UCR’s Spring Splash is FREE as opposed to The Breaks which costs $32 (Presale) or $40-$45 (at the door). Any suggestions?
