San Bernardino emcee and long time S.O.P. collaborator Yasin showcases the numerous untapped talent that the Inland Empire region has to offer.
This Black Cloud artist brings that underground Hip Hop that’s palatable to mainstream. Like Houston’s Rob Jay and Maryland’s E Reece vocally and musically Yasin delivers some quality head nodding material.

Long time supporter and veteran of the Inland scene, Aftadark drops his new video “Vices” with a cameo from some of my favorite DJs in the Southland DJ Gabe Real & DJ Ethos. The video is directed by a Mr. Eric Heights in black and white and features a bummy Aftadark consumed by the vices that make us all feel like lethargic bums.
Too bad many of my fellow backpackers got caught up in the vices (one in particular), they could have been productive dudes! Props to those still thriving…
Our pals at The Coachella Valley Art Scene put me onto Pimpin Quinn, a young emcee with a ton of rhythm. A native of the desert, Pimpin Quinn’s music is raw in style and substance. If you were to hear the lyrics and delivery alone you’d probably be impressed, but Pimpin Quinn posseses an ability which leaves other emcees lost in a sea of emails. Using any hard surface as a percussion combined with some scat and beatbox, Pimpin’ Quinn is a one man show practicing a raw style of hip hop often only learned from the toughest of places. It’ll be interesting to see how Pimpin Quinn’s skillset eventually translate to recorded music, however he has plenty of room to continue being creative with the youtube videos for the time being.
Will follow up with some video of his anticipated live performance at the CVAS Blog Desert Party in Indio, CA next Saturday (12/19)
A local deejay from around my way now residing in the Bay Area DJ Franchise dropped this great mix of radio friendly Hip Hop upon me. I was expecting the worst while listening but damn if Franchise has good ears for music. He selected and mixed all great joints within the mainstream Hip Hop / R&B landscape. Even if you stay away from the FM-dial like I do you will enjoy this mix, it features cuts from Kanye, Wale, Notorious B.I.G., Common & more.
San Bernardino emcee and Building Blocks host Noa James has released to the world his first album Sounds Of A Monster.
When people think of a monster they normally think of a creature that is vicious and ferocious. In the title of my LP, Sounds of a Monster, the monster refers to the life i lived, what I’ve been through and the struggle I’ve had in this music business……Sounds of a Monster reflects all the emotions in a person. ” Noa James
Vocally and lyrically Noa James reminds one of Royce Da 5′ 9″ or other rappers like L.E.G.A.C.Y. Musically especially the comparison to L.E.G.A.C.Y. is apt as anyone who has heard any L.E.G joint can attest.
Overall the album mixes east coast hardcore Hip Hop with a dose of mainstream Rap. Personally I prefer my Hip Hop more underground sounding, but I’m sure more younger listeners may appreciate the sound more than I.
Every album has some bangers and “Sounds Of A Monster” is no exception . Some standouts off the LP are “Thank You” featuring Curtiss King & Art Barz , “Blow” and “Dreams” both songs featuring Ramon Jones & S.O.P. (Jynxx & Yasin) and “Music I Love” which features a sample of my favorite singer Adriana Evans. All four of these tunes display Noa at his best vocally and musically.
Noa has an unpolished sound which with a little work match up with the best of them.
