The multi-talented graphic artist and producer, Dan Nguyen (aka Demon Slayer) has been steady on his grind, performing live sets regularly as well as being commissioned for various mural projects. Luckily for those of us unfortunate enough to not have experienced a Demon Slayer performance as of yet, filmmaker Eye Tape has shot and edited an amazing video to accompany one of the artist’s cosmic tracks. The music video features snippets from one of Nguyen’s performances at the “Fly Ball” event at the Grand Star Jazz Club in Los Angeles.
There is way too much amazing shit going on with this event for FREE -or- $5 at a brand new rooftop venue…

I realize a lot of you may be swinging by the site because you maybe used to East of L.A. being a music blog and sharing all the goods we run across. HOWEVER before we were a music blog and until this day our backbone is live regional events/promotions and working with a fantastic group of friends & artists. If your around the area - be sure to check us out, a lot going on these days. Back to music blogging soon however! Ultimately I’d rather blog about no music than weak music.
Ps - Come to Senses - we’ll all be there maxing out!

By Blake Gillespie» Speak! might be the 34th best rapper alive, but remixing the number one band in the world will undoubtedly raise his indie-cred tenfold - might even crack a few top 30 lists.
Sleigh Bells, Sleigh Bells, Sleigh Bells. Treats got that Best New Music tag, which puts their music into the news of the Jonas Brothers and Jessica Alba tweets. The sky probably is not the limit for bands that get this big. Sleigh Bells could be the first band to play on the moon - I think we have the technology to send them there - fuck it, if we don’t have the fuel to bring them home. It’s about the legendary status, right?
L.A. rapper Speak! chopped up SB’s “Infinity Guitars” into his “Infinity Rap Bars” (Remix) and managed to lessen the swelling in my head that pulsates on some Tell Tale Heart insanity each time I read praise of this god forsaken band. I took enough French in college, to feel as though I got something in common with Speak! when he raps, “if you ask why every store has a French name / I’ll kick you to the curb and replace you with a French dame.”
Download “Infinity Rap Bars” and Speak!’s free EP here.

We’re truly blessed because the brand new East of L.A. office & studio is located in the Pomona Arts Colony and it has some incredible residents. One of them is this man, DJ EROK. Not a day goes by where this homie isn’t loading and unloading deejay equipment from his car, always on the run. Concurrently holding down the Inland Empire with it’s longest running and most successful nightclub promotion (More Fire Monday’s) and producing arguably one of it’s most successful and widely noted apparel lines: Ek5obition.
I downloaded this 46 minute live mix earlier this morning, and I think I might have listened to it without skip four times over already. Few lyrics, just head nodding mind sex with sprinkles of genius from the producers forging forward throughout Southern California and now emerging onto national & international platforms. This is one for the grown and sexy, a highly recommended download.

Our good friend Tina has recently organized an event set to promote the Brisk Emerging Artist Contest (a competition in which 3 selected artists from 30 competing schools receive $10,000 scholarships) going down this Thursday at Back To The Grind in Riverside, California. Our associates and creative partners are preparing great sets: AFTA-1 and emcee SPEAK!, as well as our friend DMN SLYR. Other performances include dirtRAID and the Riverside Drum Circle. More fun activities will be offered at the event such as a tentu.org-sponsored crafting center and a photobooth provided by MAMIKO.NU.
The event is completely FREE and will go down from 7:30-11:00pm. If you’re in the area, this is definitely not one to miss.
In 2009 the San Bernardino trio, Magnificent Ruffians, teamed up with Los Angeles based producers Elevated Soul to form Elevated Ruffians. Their combined creative efforts developed into a double CD worth of good quality boom bap Hip Hop.
Although the album is still for sale (HERE) they have recently released the album for free. A free double CD of music? In today’s musical landscape this usually means a collection of throwaway tracks release for marketing. Not this time this is the real deal. This is Mag Ruff at their best.
